I too face the same problem of slow charging handphone but don't want to spend the extra bucks buying a second power adapter. After doing some research on mobile phone charging. I finally found the solution.
The reason why a USB port charged so slowly is because your mobile phone draws lesser current from the USB port if it detect it as a USB port. If a power adapter is plug in to your mobile phone. It will detect it as a AC supply and draws more current to charge up in double quick time!

So the solution to make your handphone charge faster despite being plug in to a computer USB port is simple. Trick the mobile phone into believing that it is being plug into a AC supply.
