If your unit face the sunset direction, it's wall will absorb heat from the afternoon sun, then come night time, the wall facing the afternoon will start releasing heat back to your home and make it very hot! Most probably you will switch on the fan or even air-con to bring down the temperature but your utilities bill will certainly goes up.
Assuming that the sun rise from the east and set to the west:
The most ideal facing of your unit is to face the south or north so that it will absorbed the least heat from the sun during the day.
The alternative facing will be to face the east. At least your house will only absorbed the morning sun heat during the first half of the day and when night comes, hopefully all the heat is already dissipated.
The worst facing is of cause when your house face the west when the sun is setting down. The wall will absorb afternoon sun heat during second half of the day and release the heat in the evening heating up your home when your are back from work/school/etc.
So when buying your house in Malaysia, it is best to choose one with a north/south facing. But sometimes you do have to compromise as house with north/south facing will be in demand and will cost a higher price. So factoring in the cost and balancing between cost vs direction of your unit, your may have to chose the not so ideal facing.
